"Romance should never begin with sentiment. It should begin with science and end with settlement."
-Oscar Wilde
Frightening. Thoughts?
"As soon as we start putting our thoughts into words and sentences everything gets distorted, language is just no damn good-I use it because I have to, but I don't put any trust in it. We never understand each other."
-Marcel Duchamp

Well...OK, so maybe there are some elements of truth. Yeah, we're one of the first generations of rampant divorce, and yeah we're in an Information Age where romance gets glorified and movies end with kissing and marriage. Check. Check.
But, honestly, I simply cannot relate to the idea of "settling" in this manner. Maybe it's because I'm 26 and not looking to have kids or get married anytime soon, but this scares the shit out of me. What if there's a time in my life where settling seems to be the better deal? Fuck. Might as well stick my head in the oven now if that's the case. I believe in better for myself. I believe in not settling for settling.
